Russian Defence Ministry report on repelling an invasion attempt of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the territory of the Russian Federation (18 August 2024)

MOSCOW: The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to repel the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempt to invade the territory of the Russian Federation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces supported by Army aviation and artillery strikes conduct reconnaissance-search actions to locate and eliminate the enemy's sabotage and reconnaissance groups in forest belts attempting to get to the depth of the Russian territory to the south of Alekseyevskoye, Safonovka, and Sheptukhovka.

Attacks launched by assault detachments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) 22nd, 61st, and 115th mechanised brigades, and 82nd Air Assault Brigade toward Komarovka, Olgovka, Russkoye, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye were repelled. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses amounted to one tank, five armoured fighting vehicles, one counterobstacle vehicle, and more than 30 Ukrainian troops.

Aviation and artillery strikes along with actions of defending troops inflicted losses on Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) manpower and hardware clusters near Borki, Fanaseyevka, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, Novoivanovka, Mikhailovka, Snagost, and to the south of Kurilovka.

One U.S.-made M270 MLRS launcher was destroyed by a missile strike near Bezdrik (Sumy region).

Operational-Tactical Aviation delivered strikes at the enemy's reserves, ammunition and POL depots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) 22nd Mechanised Brigade, 80th Air Assault Brigade, 103rd, and 107th territorial defence brigades near Atinskoye, Belopolye, Vorozhba, Kiyanitsa, Kositsa, and Shalgino (Sumy region).

Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses have amounted to more than 300 Ukrainian troops and 27 units of hardware, including six tanks, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armoured personnel carriers, 18 armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, one MLRS launcher, and two units of engineering vehicles, including one counterobstacle vehicle.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses have amounted to 3,460 Ukrainian troops, 50 tanks, 25 infantry fighting vehicles, 45 armoured personnel carriers, 262 armoured fighting vehicles, 115 motor vehicles, five SAM launchers, seven MLRS launchers, including three HIMARS and one M270 MLRS, 25 field artillery guns, four electronic warfare stations, four units of engineering vehicles, including one counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) units is in progress.
