MOSCOW: Zakharova ruled out negotiations with Kiev after the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region

The way the Ukrainian Armed Forces operate in the Kursk region excludes any possibility of negotiations with Kiev, Zakharova said. Strengthening the negotiating positions was cited among the reasons for the operation by the office of the President of Ukraine, but Zelensky denied this

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, is confident that after the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, there can now be no peace talks with Kiev.
She called the invasion of the Kursk region itself "a crazy and suicidal adventure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

According to Zakharova, there can be no talk of peace now, after everything that the Ukrainian military has done on Kursk land.

- Everyone sees perfectly well what is happening, - Zakharova noted. "What world?" Actually, on earth? Peace at the negotiating table? With whom? With those who kill civilians? With those who bully women, the elderly? Who will sit down at the same negotiating table with them?

"[In the Kursk region ], Ukrainian militants and foreign mercenaries are really committing atrocities, shooting civilians, volunteers, striking civilian infrastructure, targeting journalists, and creating threats to nuclear energy facilities. What kind of peace talks are there in such conditions and with whom can we hold them?" Zakharova said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin also pointed out that it is impossible to talk about negotiations with those who strike at civilians and civilian infrastructure. He also noted that, despite the actions of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region, the Russian military did not slow down their advance in the Donbas.

Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of Zelensky's office, said on August 8 that the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region was needed to strengthen Kiev's position in the negotiations. However, Vladimir Zelensky rejected this version. Among the goals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, he called the creation of a "buffer zone", as well as replenishment of the exchange fund, preventing an offensive on the Sumy region and the information component of the issue of the possible transfer of the Russian military contingent from the main front line.

According to the latest data from the Russian Defense Ministry, over the past day, during the repulse of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attack on the Kursk region, Ukrainian units lost up to 380 people killed and wounded. The total number of losses of the Armed Forces in this area since the beginning of August has reached 7 thousand.

Earlier, Zakharova informed that there is more and more evidence that the Ukrainian military killed civilians in the Kursk border area.
