WASHINGTON: The United States has decided to deploy additional military equipment in the Middle East, including destroyers and bombers. This is reported on the Pentagon's website. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered to deploy additional forces to the Middle East, including destroyers, fighter jets and long-range strike bombers, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said.

"The Minister of Defense has ordered the deployment of additional missile defense destroyers, a squadron of fighter jets and tanker aircraft, as well as several long-range bombers of the US Air Force B-52," the ministry said in a statement.

Military equipment will start arriving in the coming months. The aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is also preparing for departure. The Pentagon noted that if Iran and its allies "take advantage of this moment to attack American personnel," the United States will "take all necessary measures to protect."

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when militants from the Gaza-based Palestinian radical group Hamas staged a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel has declared a state of war readiness; announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians; and began delivering air strikes on the enclave and certain parts of Lebanon and Syria, followed by a ground operation in the enclave. Clashes are underway in the West Bank as well.

On September 23, Israel launched an offensive operation, dubbed Northern Arrows, targeting the Lebanon-based Shiite party Hezbollah’s military facilities, carrying out massive air strikes across Lebanon. Overnight on October 1, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced a ground operation in borderline regions in Lebanon’s south.

On the eve of the Supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered the Supreme National Security Council of the state to prepare a plan for a retaliatory strike against Israel. Khamenei made the decision after reviewing a report on the extent of damage caused during the Israeli attack on missile production and air defense systems around Tehran, critical energy infrastructure and the main port in the south of the country.

Earlier, Iran allowed a change in the nuclear doctrine in the event of a threat.
