MOSCOW: The Foreign Ministry named the main beneficiary of the termination of gas transit through Ukraine. lies entirely with the United States, the Kiev regime, and the EU authorities, said Maria Zakharova:
The United States, the EU authorities, and the Kiev regime are responsible for stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine; Gazprom fulfilled its contractual obligations. This was stated in a comment by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The main beneficiary of the redistribution <...> is the United States <...> Now other countries of the formerly economically successful and independent European Union will have to pay the price for American patronage," Zakharova said.
She recalled that Germany became the first "victim of the predatory strategy" of the United States to redistribute the market. According to her, after the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were blown up, the country was forced to buy gas from other sources at inflated prices.
Zakharova emphasized that all responsibility for the gas problems in Europe lies with the United States, because the termination of gas transit from Russia is beneficial to the American economy. "The geopolitical background of the Kyiv regime's decision is obvious," the official explained.
"Let us emphasize that the Kyiv authorities have decided to stop pumping blue fuel from Russia to residents of European countries, despite Gazprom fulfilling its contractual obligations," Zakharova noted. "Responsibility for stopping Russian gas supplies lies entirely with the United States, the puppet Kiev regime, and the authorities of European countries that sacrificed the well-being of their citizens for the sake of financial support for the American economy," said Maria Zakharova.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that the cessation of gas supplies from Russia will negatively affect the lives of Europeans. "The cessation of supplies of competitive and environmentally friendly Russian energy not only weakens the economic potential of Europe, but also has the most negative impact on the standard of living of European citizens. The geopolitical background of the Kiev regime's decision is obvious. The main beneficiary of the redistribution of the Old World's energy market and the main sponsor of the Ukrainian crisis is the United States," the diplomat emphasized.
Earlier, Ukraine called the halt in gas transit from Russia a "historic event." Gazprom reported that transit had been stopped as of 8:00 Moscow time, since there was no "technical or legal possibility" for it. The only remaining channel for supplying Russian gas to the EU was the Turkish Stream.
On January 1, the five-year contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine for gas transit expired. Several months ago, Kyiv announced that the contract would not be extended. In December, President Vladimir Putin said it was clear that there would be no new contract. "Gazprom will survive this," he noted, and Ukraine, according to the head of state, is losing "$700-800 million a year."
