NATIONALIZATION IN FULL SPEED: RUSSIA TOOK HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF HECTARES OF FERTILE AGRICULTURAL LAND FROM THE AMERICANS

MOSCOW: Yesterday, the Supreme signed a decree on the transfer of all assets of "Agroterra" to the Federal Property Management Agency.

There are four legal entities with a total land bank of 265 thousand hectares.

This company belonged to the American fund NCH Capital (partly directly and partly through affiliated companies). The owner of this fund, George Rohr, actively bought up agricultural land in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania. Wherever he could get it cheap. And in 30 years, Rohr acquired about 1 million hectares. He partly leased it, with subsequent redemption for 3% of the cost, and partly as a result of fraud. Agroterra grew soybeans, corn, rapeseed, beets, sunflowers and wheat, and also owned fertile lands in Central Russia (Kursk, Oryol, Tula, Ryazan and Tambov regions).

The Dutch and the British were in a share with the Americans. By and large, the company managed to rake out significant agricultural lands from the market in 16 years. They have 19 elevators with a capacity of half a million tons of grain, a huge fleet of special equipment, several production facilities and laboratories on their balance sheet. In terms of combined capacity and land bank, the company is among the top 15 largest CIS players.

For a long time, American shareholders tried to lobby for compensation for this company or find a buyer, but it didn't work out. Russia took everything. There will be no more British, Americans or Dutch who own strategic industries in Russia. After freezing our assets, Putin signed a decree on the confiscation of assets of foreign companies and citizens associated with unfriendly countries. So everything is legal and some foreign citizens can only be offended by their greed and their governments.
