MOSCOW: Lavrov: Russia will under no circumstances agree to the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that countries that want to send so-called peacekeepers to Ukraine consider Russia an enemy.
The presence of NATO troops in Ukraine under any flag and in any capacity is a threat to Russia, it will not accept it under any circumstances. This was stated by Sergey Lavrov in an interview with Western journalists, commenting on the statements of European politicians about the desire to deploy peacekeepers in the country.
“Under no circumstances. No one talks to us. They continue to claim that nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, but they do everything against Russia without Russia... Why should we agree to peacekeeping forces or some peacekeeping group? They want such a force to consist of countries that have declared us an enemy. Will they come there as peacekeepers?” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said, answering a corresponding question from American blogger Larry Johnson.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov had already called the European Union’s plans to deploy its peacekeeping forces in Ukraine impudent. According to him, this is a continuation of the "incitement" of the Kyiv regime to war against Russia.
as one of the root causes, the presence of NATO troops under any flag, in any capacity on Ukrainian soil is the same threat to us," the Foreign Ministry press service quotes Mr. Lavrov as saying.
He stressed that Russia will under no circumstances agree to the deployment of a foreign contingent in Ukraine. According to the minister, the fate of the Russian-speaking population in the liberated territories and those under Ukrainian control is also at stake.
A plan for the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, when Kyiv and Moscow agree on a ceasefire, has been prepared by Great Britain and France. It is assumed that up to 30,000 European troops will protect Ukrainian infrastructure, cities and ports. For this, London and Paris asked for limited military assistance from Washington. However, US President Donald Trump said that a peace agreement must first be reached.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported that, according to incoming data, the West plans to introduce about 100 thousand NATO peacekeepers into Kyiv.
