WASHINGTON: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is allegedly afraid to debate his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris on September 10, the vice president's campaign team said on Friday amid ongoing disputes over the date and venue of the event.
"Donald Trump needs to grow up. He has no problem spreading lies and hateful nonsense at his campaign rallies or in interviews with right-wing commentators. But apparently he is too afraid to do so from the podium of the US vice president," the campaign team said on its page on the X social network.
Trump and Harris have been unable to agree on the date and the channel-venue of the debate for several weeks now. The second round of debates was originally supposed to take place on September 10 on ABC, but then the plan was to include incumbent US President Joe Biden, who has since decided to drop out of the race. In this regard, Trump's team said that they cannot yet promise participation in the debates on ABC, since the Democrats have changed their candidate. Fox News, which is close to the Republicans, has offered to hold the debate on their platform on September 17, while Trump accuses ABC of sympathizing with the Democrats and spreading fake news.
