At the meeting, Putin demanded to ensure reliable cover of the border with Ukraine

Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the situation in the border regions with members of the Security Council, the government and the heads of the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions. According to the president, the purpose of Kyiv’s attack on the Kursk region was the desire to improve its position in the negotiations. However, there can be no talk of any settlement with the people who attack civilians. Putin said that the main task in the region now is to knock out the Ukrainian Armed Forces and support local residents.

What else was discussed at the meeting?

Why did the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack the Kursk region?
Russian President Vladimir Putin, at an operational meeting on the situation in the border regions, called the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on the Kursk region an attempt by Ukraine to improve its position in future negotiations. However, Moscow does not intend to maintain contacts under the current conditions.

“But what kind of negotiations can we even talk about with people who indiscriminately attack civilians, civilian infrastructure, or try to create a threat to nuclear energy facilities? What can you even talk to them about?” - said the head of the Russian Federation.

Putin also emphasized that Kyiv’s attack is intended to slow down the pace of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces. At the same time, despite the events in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces failed to prevent the advance of the Russian army. According to the president, the pace of the offensive not only did not decrease, but, on the contrary, increased by one and a half times.

The third, as the head of the Russian Federation noted, is the obvious goal of Ukraine - to sow discord and discord in Russian society, to intimidate people, and to strike a blow at the internal political situation.

“But here, too, there is already a response from Russian citizens. This is unanimous support for everyone who is in trouble, support for the army and, which is very important, an increase in the number of people willing to join our men, the fighters who heroically defend Russia with arms in hand. The number of people wishing to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense has increased in recent days,” Putin said.

According to the president, Kyiv is fulfilling the will of its Western masters by fighting Russia “at the hands of Ukrainians.” Thus, the Ukrainian government is not only committing a crime against the Russian people, but, in fact, has embarked on the path of extermination of its own citizens. Putin noted that losses among the most combat-ready units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasing dramatically.

“The enemy will certainly receive a worthy response, and all the goals facing us will undoubtedly be achieved,” he concluded.

At the same time, Putin said: it is absolutely obvious that Kyiv will continue to make attempts to destabilize the situation in the border regions. And if in some areas the situation is stable now, this does not mean that tomorrow it will be calm.

The head of state also emphasized that an assessment of what is happening in the Kursk region “must certainly be given,” but the main task now is to knock out the enemy and ensure reliable cover of the state border. The FBS and the Russian Guard must ensure a counter-terrorism operation (CTO) regime and an effective fight against Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) in the Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions. Civilian departments, in turn, face the task of providing law enforcement agencies with everything they need.

“And finally, everyone, together with the leaders of the respective regions, must focus on the main task, and this is supporting our people who need help and protection,” Putin added.

About the situation in the Kursk region
The acting governor of the region, Alexey Smirnov, reported on what is currently happening in the Kursk region at a meeting with the President of the Russian Federation. The depth of penetration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into the territory of the Russian Federation is 12 km, width – 40 km.

According to Smirnov, there are 28 settlements in this zone. About two thousand people live there, about whose fate the authorities currently know nothing.
Since August 6, as the acting head of the region noted, attacks by the Ukrainian army on the territory of the Kursk region have increased manifold. Of the 194 missiles and drones, 147 were shot down. As a result of the strikes, 12 people were killed, 121 were injured, including 10 children.

The acting head of the region also reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used “shells with chemical weapons” in the Belovsky district of the Kursk region - the Rosseti brigade came under fire.

Smirnov called the situation in the region difficult. According to him, there is no clear front line in the Kursk region, which makes it difficult to determine the location of Ukrainian army fighters who have penetrated into Russian territory.

“There is a danger that sabotage groups are operating here in our clothes, in our cars, with our documents,” said the acting governor.

In this regard, patrols will be strengthened in the region to protect against marauders from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Smirnov also reported that 40 km of an anti-tank ditch out of the planned 46 km had already been dug in the Kursk region. In addition, 40 checkpoints have begun to be deployed in the region, and 90 platoon strongholds are being built on instructions from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

As for evacuation, according to the acting head of the Kursk region, 180 thousand people are subject to it. At the moment, 121 thousand Kursk residents have already left the border areas.

About the situation in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions
In the Belgorod region, as the head of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, noted, the most difficult situation at the moment has developed in the Shebekinsky district. About 50-70% of Shebekino residents have already left their homes.

In general, the situation in the Belgorod region has also worsened, and the number of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces has increased. According to Gladkov, the amount of destruction in the region is also growing. The governor noted that since the beginning of the special operation, over 30 thousand houses and apartments have been damaged. 25 thousand were restored. However, the situation in the border areas does not allow this to be done more actively, since the Ukrainian army is destroying repair equipment. This problem affects 115 thousand border residents.

The governor of the Belgorod region also asked the President of the Russian Federation to index compensation payments for residents of the region who suffered as a result of the shelling. In addition, Gladkov also proposed introducing a moratorium on the payment of mortgages and loans in the region for residents of the affected areas, as was previously done in the Kursk region. Vladimir Putin supported this initiative.

As for the situation in the Bryansk region, according to the head of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, the situation there is now stable, and there is no need to resettle residents. The governor said that 1,576 places have been deployed in temporary centers in the region with the possibility of increasing to more than 32 thousand places.

The acting head of the region added that 90 platoon strongholds are currently being built in the region on the orders of the Ministry of Defense, and patrols are being strengthened to protect against looters. In addition, people are being evacuated from dangerous areas.

To recap, today Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that law enforcement agencies ensure the protection of the country's borders against the backdrop of attacks on the Kursk region. At the same time, he stated that, despite all the attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the pace of offensive operations by the Russian Armed Forces "not only has not decreased, but has increased by 1.5 times."

- It is becoming obvious that it is now clear why the Kiev regime refused our proposals to return to a peaceful settlement plan, as well as to the proposals of interested and neutral mediators. Apparently, the enemy, with the help of its Western masters, is fulfilling their will. The West is fighting us with the hands of the Ukrainians. Apparently, the enemy is striving to improve its negotiating positions in the future. But what kind of negotiations can we talk about with people who indiscriminately strike at civilians, at civilian infrastructure and try to create threats to nuclear energy? What can we even talk about with them? Putin asked.
