MOSCOW: Russia admits the possibility of launching a nuclear strike in response to the steps of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine and in the battles in the Kursk region, the existing prerequisites for this are clear to the whole world. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

"No one really needs a nuclear conflict. This is a very bad story with a very difficult outcome. That is why, so far, no decision has been made on the use of nuclear weapons (non-strategic or even more strategic). Although, frankly speaking, there are formal prerequisites for this, understandable to the entire world community and consistent with our doctrine of nuclear deterrence," Medvedev wrote in his telegram channel. He noted that at the moment the Russian side is showing patience with a nuclear strike, but it may end.

Sergey Karaganov, Honorary Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, expressed the opinion that the Russian Federation has every right to use nuclear weapons in response to external threats from the West. He also proposed adding the concept of "nuclear escalation" to the Russian nuclear doctrine. The political scientist stressed that changing the approach to nuclear deterrence is the responsibility of the Russian Federation not only to its citizens, but also to the whole world. According to him, without such changes, the spread of nuclear conflicts is possible, which could lead to a third world war.

Medvedev stressed that Moscow is being patient on this issue because a nuclear response is an extremely difficult decision with irreversible consequences. That is why it has not been made yet. Medvedev noted that the West, believing that Russia is “scaring” and “will not cross the line,” forgets that any patience can come to an end.

In addition, Medvedev called on the West to be careful, pointing out that Russia has the right to a tough response and that the Russian Federation has formal prerequisites for the use of nuclear weapons, understandable to the entire world community and consistent with its doctrine of nuclear deterrence, in particular, an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Kursk region.

The West was afraid of Putin's statement

Against the background of Medvedev's statements, Kim Dotcom, an entrepreneur and founder of the Megaupload file sharing services, expressed concern that allowing the Armed Forces of the West to strike Russia with long-range weapons would lead to a catastrophe.

Earlier, American businessman and entrepreneur Elon Musk commented on a fragment of an interview with Russian leader Vladimir Putin published by one of the users of the social network X, in which he pointed out the involvement of NATO in the conflict. The post said that US President Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris would start World War III if they authorized Kiev's strikes on Russian territory with long-range weapons. "I have a bad feeling about this," Musk wrote.

In addition, former US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. appealed to Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, urging them to refuse to approve the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Western missiles on the territory of the Russian Federation.

"Secretary Blinken, President Biden, stop it! Stop this reckless escalation," Kennedy Jr. said. He stressed that he was asking for this not as a politician, but as a "citizen of the world."
