Russian Defence Ministry report on repelling Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempt to invade Russian territory in Kursk region (16 September 2024)

MOSCOW: The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are repelling an attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the territory of the Russian Federation.

In the course of offensive operations, units of the Sever Group of Forces liberated Uspenovka and Borki.

Losses were inflicted on formations of the 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), 1st National Guard Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defence brigades near Lyubimovka, Novoivanovka, Daryino, Nikolo-Daryino, Tolsty Lug, Plekhovo, and Pokrovsky.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled five enemy counter-attacks in the direction of Byakhovo, Bolshaya Obukhovka, Viktorovka, Lyubimovka, and Malaya Loknya.

As a result, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded; four armoured fighting vehicles were destroyed.

Over the past 24 hours, with the support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, three attempts of the enemy to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Krasnooktyabrsky, Vesyoloye, and Medvezhye were repelled.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses amounted to up to 50 troops killed and wounded; one tank and three armoured fighting vehicles were destroyed.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue reconnaissance and search operations in forestry areas to locate and eliminate enemy sabotage groups attempting to get to the depth of the Russian territory.

Air strikes, artillery fire, and actions of the troops inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware clusters of the 22nd, 42nd, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 112th and 129th territorial defence brigades near Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kruglenkoye, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nikolo-Daryino, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Pravda, Russkoye Porechnoye, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes at concentration areas and reserves in Sumy region of the 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 92nd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 101st and 103rd territorial defence brigades near Bondaryovshchina, Belovody, Iskriskovshchina, Mazevka, Novaya Sloboda, Obody, Rechki, Rudnevo, Ryzhovka, Pavlovka, Khoten, Esman, and Yunakovka.

Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) losses amounted to more than 350 troops and 13 units of armoured hardware, including two tanks and 11 armoured fighting vehicles, as well as two artillery guns, three mortars, two MLRS launchers, including one U.S.-made M270 MLRS launcher, and eight motor vehicles.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost more than 13,800 troops, 115 tanks, 44 infantry fighting vehicles, 91 armoured personnel carriers, 729 armoured fighting vehicles, 439 motor vehicles, 98 artillery guns, 28 MLRS launchers, including seven of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, eight SAM launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 26 electronic warfare stations and seven counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 13 engineering vehicles, including seven counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) units is in progress.
