UNITED NATIONS: Israel is fully responsible for the escalation in the Middle East. This was stated by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia during a meeting of the UN Security Council. Israel responsible for the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East. He noted that Moscow condemns both the IDF operation in Lebanon and the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan
The situation in the Middle East could result in a major war, said Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council on the Middle East. The broadcast was on the UN media resource.
"The political liquidation of [Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah] is fraught with catastrophic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East. In West Jerusalem, they could not fail to understand this, but they deliberately escalated it. Thus, the Israeli side bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation of its consequences, including for the population of Israel," he stated.
Nebenzia also pointed out that the Middle East is heading towards a major war in full swing. At the same time, the UN Security Council can only watch powerlessly. The diplomat added that Russia strongly condemns the Israeli attacks in Lebanon and demands that the authorities of the Jewish state immediately withdraw troops from Lebanese territory.
The Russian envoy warned that Israel would not deal with the consequences of its actions in the region on its own. Therefore, Tel Aviv is going to make the United States a participant in a direct conflict with Iran.
"Another dangerous illusion is that Israel, having significant military superiority, plans to deal with the crisis it provoked itself. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Israeli leadership plans to provoke a direct conflict between its main regional adversary Iran and the United States at any cost," Nebenzia stressed.
"Unfortunately, the Middle East region is literally sliding into the abyss of a new big war before our eyes, and the [UN] Security Council is only helplessly watching this," he said.
According to him, the Israeli authorities "made an unequivocal bet on forceful relief of their concerns" instead of using diplomacy, and the United States is "playing along" with them. Nebenzia called Lebanon a "new victim of the Israeli military machine," and the murders of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah Hassan and the head of the Hamas politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, were political.
The permanent Representative stressed that Russia condemns the murder of Nasrallah Hassan, as well as Israel's operation in Lebanon and calls on it to withdraw troops from there. He blamed Israel for the escalation and its consequences. Now Iran has joined the confrontation, which "showed exceptional restraint," Nebenzia noted.
===================
Ismail Haniyeh died on July 31 in an explosion at a residence in Tehran, where he arrived for the inauguration of the new president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. Iran has accused Israel of murdering the head of the Hamas politburo. Nevertheless, the Islamic Republic refrained from responding at that time.
On September 27, the Israeli army launched an airstrike on the southern suburb of Beirut, where Hezbollah had its headquarters. As a result, Nasrallah Hassan and Brigadier General of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Abbas Nilforushan were killed. Iran responded to this attack with a missile strike on Israel on the evening of October 1.
Israel launched its airstrike on Beirut as part of the military operation Arrows of the North, which was initially limited to air attacks and shelling, but on the night of October 1 turned into a ground operation.
After the Iranian strike, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East "with escalation after escalation" and called for a cease-fire. He did not mention the Islamic Republic. After that, he was declared persona non grata in Israel.
