WASHINGTON: The head of the US Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, will travel to Europe to participate in the ministerial meeting of NATO member states and the first meeting of defense ministers of the G7 countries, the Pentagon reports.
As indicated in the message, Austin will take part in a series of multilateral meetings in Brussels from October 16 to 18, including a meeting of the heads of defense departments of NATO member states and a meeting of ministers of the countries that make up the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS*."
It is also reported that on October 19, the head of the Pentagon will take part in the G7 meeting in Naples. At the same time, Austin has separate meetings scheduled with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and new Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani.
At the meetings of the heads of defense departments of NATO and G7 countries, among other things, they will discuss issues of military assistance to Ukraine and escalation in the Middle East. The head of the Pentagon will also officially visit the Vatican, the Pentagon said in a statement.
