MOSCOW: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador to Seoul, Georgy Zinoviev, because of information about the presence of the DPRK military in Russia, the South Korean Foreign Ministry reports.
"We take a firm position, demand the immediate withdrawal of North Korean troops and urge the cessation of relevant cooperation," the statement said. The South Korean Foreign Ministry called the current situation a "security threat to the international community" and pointed to violations of a number of Security Council resolutions and the UN Charter.
The Russian Embassy in Seoul confirmed to TASS that Zinoviev was invited to the South Korean Foreign Ministry for a conversation. The Ambassador listened to the position of the republic and promised to report it to the Russian leadership.
On October 18, South Korean President Yun Seok-yel held an emergency security meeting, where the issue of "the recent movement of North Korean troops to Russia" was raised. Information about this was not confirmed by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said there was no evidence of North Korean military involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the statements about sending volunteers from the DPRK to the war zone in Ukraine nonsense. Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov considered information about their recent relocation to be "another duck."
