The Palestinian Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced on the 19th that 13 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike carried out in the early hours of the morning.
Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP, "Repeated Israeli airstrikes killed 13 people in Khan Younis and Gaza City and injured dozens, including women and children."
On the 18th, the Israeli military carried out the largest airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire came into effect on January 19. According to health authorities in Gaza, which is run by the Islamic organization Hamas, more than 400 people were killed across Gaza. The first phase of the ceasefire has already expired, and negotiations to extend it have broken down.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on the night of the 18th that the airstrikes were "just the beginning" and that any future negotiations with Hamas would "only take place under fire." (AFP)
