WASHINGTON: Trump announced a "psychological deadline" for Moscow on peace with Ukraine. White House Chief Donald Trump did not set a specific deadline for Russia to make a decision on a ceasefire in Ukraine. The US President called it a "psychological deadline" that depends on the dynamics of negotiations and consultations.
Journalists asked Trump on March 30 about a possible deadline for Moscow to make a decision.
The American president explained that if he understands that the process is being deliberately delayed, he will not like it.
"There is a psychological deadline. If I decide that Russia is delaying time, then I will not be happy about it," Donald Trump replied.
At the same time, he assured that he expects a peace agreement to be concluded between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Kyiv regime Volodymyr Zelensky.
As reported by Regnum News Agency, the Russian President's words about Zelensky's illegitimacy and the introduction of external management could well have angered Trump, since they provide an opportunity to declare the expected bilateral deal on rare earth resources invalid due to the lack of authority of the current Ukrainian leadership. This opinion was expressed by the head of the scientific council of the Center for Political Conjuncture, Alexey Chesnakov.
Vladimir Putin said that Russia considers the idea of a truce with Ukraine to be correct and supports it, but there are a number of issues that require discussion. Putin has repeatedly expressed his readiness for negotiations on Ukraine, noting that the goal of the dialogue should be long-term peace, not a truce.
Trump said Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky is looking to back out of a deal on rare earths with the United States.
"He's trying to back out of the rare earth deal and if he does that he’s got some problems, big, big problems," Trump told reporters.
"There is a psychological deadline. If I decide that Russia is stalling for time, then I will not be happy about it," Donald Trump concluded.
The US President added that his relations with Vladimir Putin have not become much worse after his statements about transferring Ukraine to UN control. They are not "at a low point." Donald Trump also said that he does not want to introduce additional tariffs for Russia.
