BUDAPEST: The strong army and a strong economy lead to peace, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday in Budapest, where he was awarded the title of Civis Universitatis Honoris Causa.
In his presentation after receiving the title of honorary citizen of the university, the Israeli Prime Minister stressed the importance of education and a stable vision of the future, according to MTI.
He added that for the survival of the Jewish people it was vital that they had their own state, which could provide protection. If they want to destroy it, you need a strong army that Israel has succeeded in creating, he recalled.
He also pointed out that a strong army requires a lot of money. Since Israel’s defense requires a huge effort, the Jewish state needed a strong economy.
“Israel initially had a socialist economy based on socialist foundations, which was transformed into a free-market, modern, capitalist economy,” he recalled, adding that thanks to the high-paced GDP growth that started in this way, the rate of defence spending in the Israeli budget began to decline.

Rector Gergely Deli praised Benjamin Netanyahu as a prominent figure of world politics. He said that the role of the Israeli Prime Minister’s leadership, his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and prosperity, and his significant contribution to the promotion of international diplomacy, the protection of hundreds of thousands of Hungarian-Israeli citizens, and the strengthening of bilateral relations with Hungarian-Israeli bilateral relations, is noteworthy.
